The Medway NHS Foundation Trust is one of four hospital trusts in Kent and Medway. Employing over 3,300 staff, its main focus is to run the hospital in Gillingham.

Opened by King Edward VII in July 1905 and giving faithful service to the Navy for many years before moving to serve all local people as part of the NHS, Medway Maritime Hospital now offers the people of Medway and Swale some of the best healthcare services in the UK.

Medway Maritime Hospital now treats around 400,000 patients each year mainly in Medway and Swale, but increasingly other parts of North and West Kent too. Everyday they see around 1,400 outpatients, about 200 patients use the emergency department and approximately 150 patients need to be admitted for hospital care and treatment.

The range of specialist services offered has grown over recent years, as have the communities served, bringing to Medway services which in the past, patients have had to travel miles for. This includes the cardiac catheter suite, West Kent Vascular Centre, West Kent Centre for Urology, a dedicated stroke unit and the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

The Trust was awarded Foundation status on 1st April 2008.
