We are responsible for planning safe, high quality health services and agreeing contracts with hospitals, community services, the mental health trust, GP practices and other organisations.
For the financial year,2017/18 GYWCCG is responsible for a budget of around £361 million. which we spent on services designed to improve the helath and wellbeing of local people, Our aim is to deliver better health, better care and better value for everyone in Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
Our role is to focus on commissioning services for Great Yarmouth and Waveney residents using the commissioning cycle shown below:
Commissioning starts by looking at the needs of the local population (needs analysis). This information is provided from information collected by health service organisations and is collated and organised by Public Health.
We also look at the services which are provided very carefully (service review). We work with the other local clinical professionals to consider in detail how care is provided to patients and work on ways to make changes to improve it.
Having reviewed how services are being provided and worked with colleagues to design new, better ways of organising things we at the CCG will specify exactly what services must be available (service specification). We will then agree to a contract with health care providers such as the James Paget University Hospital, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and East Coast Community Healthcare.
The final part of the cycle is monitoring. We are continually considering how services are working and listening to patient feedback. Both service quality and its impact on the health status of local residents are covered. Using this information we can further review what we commission and continue to improve it.
