Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a new graduate, (currently registered/imminently awaiting HCPC registration,) or candidates with greater experience who want to enhance their skills. This post has the potential to rotate. You may be working in acute and/or community settings to including in/outpatient clinical areas, covering acute medical or surgical with opportunities to work in critical care, Nutritional Support Team, oncology, diabetes, renal, paediatrics’ or home enteral feeding. We offer preceptorship framework to help and guide you into your new position.

Based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital or Cheltenham General Hospital you will be supported by band 6 and 7 Dietitians.

This role provides a great start, or development, of your dietetic career. We are a large, friendly department offering experience in many areas to enable you to progress into the area of dietetics that you choose to pursue.

Main duties of the job

Experienced within the NHS on all aspects of adult nutrition support, sip feeds and enteral feeds is essential.

We are looking for looking for excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening alongside excellent verbal communication skills including active listening skills.

You will need to work as part of a team and liaise with professional at all levels, to prioritise your workload be flexible and assertive.

Working for our organisation

We are a large friendly department based on 2 sites; Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH).

Within the department at GRH we have a team of Renal Dietitians, Paediatric Dietitians plus a Home Enteral Feed Team. At CGH we have a team of Oncology Dietitians plus the Acute team. We also have a Nutrition Team, a Specialist Gastroenterology Team and Specialist Diabetes dietitians working on both hospital sites.

Gloucestershire is a great area of the country in which to live in with many areas of outstanding natural beauty, as well as excellent transport networks to the rest of the country.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be directly responsible to the Team Lead/Advanced Practitioner for Nutritional Support and based on either the Gloucester or Cheltenham site. You will be working to deliver, planning and monitoring high quality nutritional care and education to patients with complex nutrition support needs to inpatients, outpatients or within the home dependent on which specialist team you are based in.

You will be actively involved in the supervision, education and development of designated Band 5 staff and also contribute to the training of  A, B & C students each year.

Essential criteria
  • Degree in nutrition and dietetics HCPC
  • Registered with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD since registration
  • Attendance on relevant accredited courses

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working in NHS
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills including active listening skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening, caring and empathy skills and can relate well to staff and patients.
  • Able to travel to other hospital sites and community locations.
  • Evidence of successful clinical experience in NHS being autonomous practitioner and able to act on own initiative
  • Experience of effectively maintain working relationship within a team
  • Experience within the NHS in adult oral nutrition and enteral nutrition support
